The Community Well offers a series of four Peaceful Parenting workshops this fall, intended for parents of children who are toddlers through age 12. The series will be led by Kelly Burkett, LPC, therapist and parent coach.
According to Kelly, “Peaceful parenting is a mindful, respectful and loving approach to parenting that is rooted in connection, empathy and unconditional positive regard for the child.
Kelly offered a popular series through the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Preschool a few years ago that was very well received, so now she’s back!  The workshops will be informational with lots of time for questions.  Plan to join Kelly for one or more of these workshops to help make your parenting journey more manageable, effective and fun.

THE WORKSHOPS
Peaceful Parenting 101  –  Monday, September 17
Parenting is amazing and wonderful, but it’s also really hard.  Are tantrums and meltdowns leaving you worn down and discouraged?  Are you finding yourself yelling a lot? Do you feel like every little thing with your child has become a battle?  Do you wish you could feel more excited and joyful about parenting?  Peaceful Parenting can help!  Peaceful Parenting 101 will give you the guidance, encouragement, and tools you need to decrease the drama, power struggles, and fighting and restore the joy in parenting so you can be the parent you want to be.
Rethinking Discipline  –  Monday, October 1
The actual definition of discipline is “to guide,” but in our society discipline has become synonymous with punishment.  In this workshop, we will talk about why children misbehave and what the research shows about various forms of punishment.  More importantly, we’ll discuss what DOES work to increase your child’s cooperation and compliance and decrease unwanted behaviors.
Surviving Sibling Struggles  –  Monday, October 15
As any parent of more than one child knows, watching your children interact with each other can be heartwarming and rewarding, and exasperating and frustrating ….often all in the same 10-minute span!  In this workshop, we will talk about what causes sibling rivalry, ways to reduce the competition and fighting, and how you can help your children create a close and harmonious bond for life.  We will talk specifically about how to respond (what to actually say and do) in the moment when your children are fighting, yelling or hitting each other.
Managing Your Own Self-Care and Wellness  –  Monday, October 29
Parenting is without a doubt the hardest job. One of the hardest things about parenting is regulating ourselves and staying calm in the face of our child’s big feelings, meltdowns, and misbehavior.  Do you find yourself feeling as if all your buttons are being pushed?  Is it hard to not get triggered and have your own parental tantrum? You are not alone! This workshop will focus on helping you identify and manage your own triggers so you can have that close connection with your child and feel good about how you manage yourself when parenting feels extra-challenging.   We’ll also focus on helping you prioritize your own wellness and self-care, as these are essential in order to be a peaceful parent and model of healthy self-regulation.
